Teacher & Horse Professional Extraordinaire!

Dorothy McAffee is a talented member of our Equine Therapy Team! She is a lifelong horse lover and has worked with horses for more than 53 years! Within the last two years she has been able to use her skills at “Once-Upon-A-Time Farm...” using the EAGALA model of Equine Assisted Growth & Learning! She has helped with the Emerald Youth Foundation Summer Program, “Just Lead” and The Middle Path Equine Therapy groups, combining Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and horses to help people develop better life skills!

Dorothy is originally from the state of Utah. She worked as a horse trainer for Parabia Arabian Farm and Sun Canyon Ranch Arabians for many years. She also taught private riding lessons and was the head trainer and riding instructor at Zephyr Ranch. She competed in Dressage and Combined Training.

We have been lucky to have Dorothy in Tennessee for the past 28 years! She is currently employed by the Anderson County School System. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, K-8th grade, and a Masters of Art in Administrative Leadership. Her teaching experience includes Adult Education, Kindergarten, First Grade, and she has been a Reading Recovery Intervention Teacher for the past 23 years!  She began her teaching career in Utah: 7 years in Kindergarten, two years in 6 to 7th grade. She also taught first and fifth grade for two years in Georgia!

Dorothy is looking forward to “retirement” in 2022, which will give her more time to help us at “Once-Upon-A-Time”… Farm!
